During your stay at the Ouest Hôtel, why not treat yourself to a break away from the city, in the bucolic setting of the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil?
Astonishing botanical richness
From the time of its creation by Louis XV in the mid-18th century, the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil has been a place devoted to horticulture and the preservation of rare species. Established at the end of the 19th century, this botanical garden’s greenhouses comprise one of the four botanical centres of the City of Paris. In this extensive greenhouse complex are cultivated the plants, flowers and trees that are sent to decorate Parisian green spaces and municipal buildings. No fewer than 5,000 plant species flourish there. Arranged around the central parterre, these magnificent greenhouses each have their own specialities. The large greenhouse or palmarium is devoted to the cultivation of palm trees, while the east and west greenhouses host tropical species, particularly begonias, peperomia and ficus. Outside the greenhouses, the route through the botanical garden is marked by remarkable trees, araucarias, ginko biloba, caramel tree, magnolia and more. Finally, the main French-style garden doubles as a contemporary-inspired garden and an English-style garden.
A walk in the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil
Beyond the botanical richness and the scientific interest of the visit, a walk in the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil brings an experience of timeless serenity. With their curvaceous bluish silhouettes, the late 19th century greenhouses surrounding the vast central parterre bring a distinct touch of period elegance to the outlook. As you follow the paths, you’ll want to pause to contemplate the fountain decorated with a Bacchanale by the sculptor Dalou and the fourteen Green Man-style mascarons created by Rodin which adorn the retaining wall of the terrace. Your steps will then take you to six newer greenhouses. These resulted from the renovation work of the neighbouring Roland Garros Stadium. The two sites have indeed merged for the better. To make the most of all the riches and enchanting secrets of the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil, it’s a good idea to take one of the guided tours on offer. The Jardin also regularly hosts various events, exhibitions, concerts and more. Check out the programme!
