In addition to the more sedate ghost trains and caterpillars that still have the power to enchant, the fair boasts some attractions that are truly hair-raising, even divinely scary! Thrills are guaranteed by Power Max swinging you at 90 km per hour, Star Flyer hurling you 60 metres into the air and Skyfall, which drops you 80 metres at a speed of up to 180 km per hour!
15 days on clay
On May 22nd we embark once again on a fortnight of sporting excitement on the red clay courts that make the French Open the most challenging of the tennis Grand Slam events. Clay slows down the ball and gives it a high bounce, leading to longer exchanges and greater drama. Who will win the prestigious trophy this year? Will Novak Djokovic hang on to the title he claimed so decisively last year, or will Andy Murray seize the opportunity to take his revenge? There’s also Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka to add to the unpredictability of this great sporting occasion. And we can’t overlook the towering talents of Roger Federer when suspense reigns supreme at the Porte d'Auteuil. Intense moments and thrills galore are what you can look forward to during the world’s premiere clay court competition.
Vermeer: a major exhibition at the Louvre
The exhibition called Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting, currently running at the Louvre, demonstrates the richness of what is called genre painting, or illustrating scenes from everyday life, among the Dutch painters of the second half of the 17th century. Johannes Vermeer and his contemporaries were engaged in a dynamic rivalry that inspired these artists of the Golden Age to rise to astonishing heights of creative mastery. Holland, then known as the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, was a wealthy nation, and its elite seems to have particularly appreciated painted scenes of a magnificent and elegant daily life and were happy to provide financial support to the artists who created them. It is recommended that you reserve your ticket online to be sure of experiencing this stunning exhibition.
