Automobiles and art are just two of the areas of interest that will be receiving plenty of exposure in Paris this autumn. Car buffs and industry insiders will be unable to resist the lure of the world-famous Paris Motor Show, and night owls will get a nocturnal thrill from the ever-popular White Nights arts festival.
The rendez-vous for automobile aficionados
Still popular even after more than a century of existence, the Mondial de l'Automobile and its presentation of the most popular, most desirable and most unusual concept cars and production models is enjoyed by young and old alike. Every other year the largest and most iconic brands and manufacturers flock to the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles to show their latest creations to the general public and to other auto industry professionals for the duration of this world-class trade fair, which this year will run from October 1st to 16th. The Paris Motor Show attracts over a million visitors for each edition, thanks to a family-friendly atmosphere and a wide range of appeal.
From the most luxurious vehicles to standard family cars, an astonishing selection of marques from all over the world can be found represented here at the world’s oldest automotive trade fair. With the presence of over 250 professional exhibitors, the Paris Motor Show is the essential place to be if you want to see the latest models make their debut or catch up on the cutting edge technology of green vehicles and connected cars. This year’s edition also boasts a fascinating look at the cars of the movies, with many famous vehicles on display.
An arts festival for night owls
The Nuit Blanche arts festival has undoubtedly been one of the most freewheeling, off the wall and enjoyable Parisian events of recent years, and the 2016 edition may well be the best yet. Modelled in part on the principle of Heritage Days, during which the public is invited to see the monuments of Paris in a different light, the White Nights festival is free and takes place over the course of a single night. This year the night in question will be that of October 1st. Inaugurated in 2002 and inspired by similar festivals in cities such as Rome, Montreal, Madrid and Brussels, this all-night event is a chance to experience the museums of Paris from a fresh perspective.
You are invited to explore a wide range of French culture and the arts in a unique way, participate in various artistic performances and enjoy art installations created especially for the occasion. For this 15th edition you will have the opportunity to follow the wanderings along the banks of the Seine of Poliphile, a young hero in search of his true love, Polia. An artistic project initiated by the President of the Palais de Tokyo, Jean de Loisy, the journey of the character from the Ile de la Cité to the western reaches of Paris serves as a pretext to discover 35 original pieces of art placed along the route.
